Creating Positivity

For the longest time I believed that positivity and negativity happen due to some external events. For instance, if you love what you do or are enjoying the project you are working on you are more likely to be positive. Equally, when we are doing something that we don't enjoy or is difficult for us, say having to deal with a difficult colleague or doing chores that we don't see the point of, it may reduce our positivity.

As the years have gone by, I realize that the above is only partly true. Yes, our positivity gets amplified or weakens based on the external situations we face.

But, Positivity has a much higher correlation to how we condition our mindset than the situations we find ourselves in. Conditioning the mindset is really about focusing on the routines and rituals that keep you in the moment, energize you, and keep you sane. For me, the days I get to read, write and exercise, the positivity quotient is far greater than days when I miss my morning rituals. The toughest past is staying consistent on these rituals, knowing these are the fuel for your mindset, especially on days when you don't feel like it or are in some kind of a downward spiral.

Creating a positive mindset is really about creating the micro rituals, that compound, to get you in the right frame of mind. It's not too different from an athlete trying to get in the zone before they step onto the field. Some athletes do this by visualizing, some by listening to songs with headsets on, and some by writing out their thoughts.

Would love to hear how do you create your zone?
