Ambitious about Ambition
A lot of us are ambitious.
We go about our professional lives often wearing the sunglasses of ambition. Though these sunglasses every new responsibility looks appetizing. It clouds us from differentiating which responsibility is truly good for us, and which responsibility isn't well suited for us given our life stage or nature.
An example could be you managing an additional team that weighs you down with negativity, or taking up an additional project that eats into you family time, or a promotion that makes you relocate to a place you aren't keen on.
With the ambition colored sunglasses we aren't able to take the hard call of saying no or passing by an opportunity. We wonder how would we be perceived? Yet we are happy if somehow serendipitously that responsibility vanishes.
Strength lies is taking a call that makes us be at peace with ourselves, given our nature and life stage, and not just trying to keep adding more responsibilities. Career is a part of our life and not the be all and end all. Additionally, the success in our careers is function of how well we do in the responsibilities we take up, and not just the width of what we do.
