Is time an Optimization Problem or a prioritization problem

Time management is looked at as an Optimization problem i.e. how can I do more within the available time.

However, often it is a Prioritization problem i.e. what do I need to prioritize (form the host of things) and drop/ outsource/ delegate/ automate everything else.

The difference between the two is the mindset.

In the Optimization mindset, we carry the burden of everything else on the to do list, and the guilt erodes our ability to get things done (and be present)! We make some progress on many fronts that dedicated progress on a few important ones.

In the Prioritization mindset, we focus on a handful of things that are meaningful of us, and liberate ourselves from worrying about the host of other to-dos. It amplifies our results.

Of course, the cost of a Prioritization mindset is that we need to be ok with some things not being ideal (e.g. sometimes it's how the house looks during the week because you have prioritized your work and health, etc. or having a limited social circle as you have prioritized travelling and your dedicated all available time to personal pursuits).

So if you have the same to-dos on your list for a long time, try giving the prioritization method a try.
