Sharing Credit Fatally

"It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit" - Harry Truman (33rd US President)

The above quote resonates so much in what we see in organizations today. Our willingness to share credit is such a key enabler in keep moving forward as a high performing team. The feeling of not being recognized is one of the biggest factors that drives a wedge between team members, and causes friction.

It is a data driven fact that when some of the highest performing sales people or investment professionals move from one company to another, they often take a few years (in a best case scenario) to hit the same numbers as they did in their previous company. This is often because they overestimate their own contributions while underestimating those of others around them. This bias of course isn’t restricted to the sales side, but permeates across functions and levels in the organization.

As leaders, it is important we remain cognizant to how fatal a half backed recognition can be to the dynamics of our teams.
