What if You Don’t Get the Desired Recognition

It's not always that we get commensurate #recognition for our work. This is as true at the entry level as it is at mid or even senior levels. In the moment, it can be demotivating & disturbing. How we #conduct ourselves in these times can be a pivotal to our continued #success.

Reaction 1: Feel dejected, doubting our competence, embedding it as a personality trait.

Reaction 2: Make a lot of noise, and act in anger, burning bridges in the process.

Reaction 3: Explore other opportunities as you write off the firm or the specific team. This helps momentarily only, as we escape the situation.

Many of us are guilty of these reactions. A more thoughtful template can help build successful careers & #resilience.

1. Reflect to see if it's a real miss or did we over estimate our contributions

2. If the miss is real, was it intentional or a lapse. Past trend in dealing with the firm/ team can offer perspective

3A. If its unintentional, articulate your perspective to the decision makers calmly & explain how it made you feel. It may help get the deserved recognition, but surely helps avoid a repeat in the future.

3B. If you feel it's intentional, explore other roles if the miss is material & establishes an ongoing tend.
