Family Matters

When a family member is feeling low or in a downward spiral, it heavily weighs on everyone in the family.

Reason pulling the individual down is seldom life changing or threatening. It often varies from a bad day at work, to being guilt ridden for not moving ahead on our goals (missing our workouts or meditation or anything else) for a few days/weeks, to concern for a close friend/ extended family. Yet, irrespective of how big or trivial the issue maybe, it weighs the entire family down. We keep going down a rabbit hole till someone in the family takes small steps (changing the mood by having a pep talk, asserting an outing for ice cream or to the park) to help us snap out of the negative inertia.

The same way, the collective energy and mood of our teams is substantially influenced by how each individual feels. The mood (+ve or -ve) silently permeates from from 1 person to many others in the team. Mood of the team then gradually becomes mood of the org, and before we know it we are in a sea of frustration/ cynicism or positivity.

Just as we make the effort to keep everyone in the family rolling along positively, it's important we do the same timely small interventions (discussions, celebrations, other gestures) for each member of our team.
