Hunt gather parent
In the book 'Hunt Gather Parent', Michaleen Doucleff talks about the concept of independence vs. autonomy in raising responsible children. I found it fascinating how relevant this concept is to our professional lives.
#Independence is like being a self sufficient solitary planet, not needing to rely or be influenced by others. An independent child makes his own decisions, but does not have much obligations to the family or community, and in turn the family/ community may not have much expectations of them.
#Autonomy is having freedom to make your own decisions, but staying connected to you family/ community. You have responsibilities towards them, and in return enjoy an invisible safety net. It's like the planets circling the sun - "they belong to a solar system, circling around each other, feeling stabilized by each other's gravity."
This concept of independence vs. autonomy offers great perspective for #interdepartmental or even #peer #collaboration. Fostering an environment where the departments or colleagues are autonomous to make their own decisions, but have #responsibility towards their peers/ departments is a great way of achieving organizational #harmony. It requires making people understand how their actions impact others in the org. ecosystem.
