Is Prepartion over rated @ Work

Almost all of us walk into some of the biggest roles in our life without any preparation. Be it as a spouse, a parent, a caregiver. We seem to fare decently, generation after generation, in learning and performing these role without much preparedness.

Yet, so often, we harbour doubts on our preparedness when it comes to the professional sphere even when what we seek to explore maybe adjacent to our past experience. Equally, in organisations we look for the perfect fit and preparedness when we look to place candidates (whether internal and external) in new roles that they may not have experience in.

It's a great irony that we back our selves (sometimes without even thinking) in life changing aspects, but doubt ourselves (& others) for the relatively small stuff.

I don't mean to undervalue preparedness. It sure is important, but we shouldn't aim for the perfect preparation. What we need is the basics (in most situations), and not the nth level of detailing and fitment. Imperfect action trumps perfect planning and preparedness most days of the week.
