Timing of Preparation Matters

The other day we took my father-in-law to the doctor for his annual health checkup, including a consultation with the heart specialist. It was quite an event.

The morning before he decided to go for a run (instead of the regular walk), to ensure his health tests come good!!! When we reached the doctor's place he looked all smug, armed with his files of previous health reports.

Doctor: "Sir what medicines are you having these days".

Dad: "2 medicines everyday".

Doctor: "Which ones"

Dad: "aa..aa...aa"
He hadn't noted down the names of the meds, and was scurrying through his files to find it. Of course, it wasn't there. The expression on his face was priceless!! It looked like someone asked him a question out of syllabus or he came in prepared for an English exam and it turned out to be a Maths exam!!

Thankfully the doctor was kind and patient, and we managed to get the med names by calling someone at home. The health results were decent too.

The funny story aside, sometimes when we are preparing for an event last minute isn't much different from trying to run the morning of the blood test and hoping for a clean health report. Equally, in the eagerness of the preparation, it is easy to be focused on the glamourous "run", vs. the mundane but essential "medicine names" like my dad did.
